Where We Are

The benefice is situated right in the heart of England in an area known as The Midlands, which occupies the central part of the country. We are in the north west of the county of Leicestershire near the town of Ashby de la Zouch.

You will notice that the town of Ashby de la Zouch appears in the centre of the map, to the north east of the city of Birmingham.

To the north are the cities of Derby and Nottingham, to the south are the cities of Leicester, Coventry and Birmingham. Not only are we close to so many major cities but we also have the benefit of being close to three of the major motorways in the country, the M1, M5 and M6, which means that we can be in London, Bristol, Manchester or Leeds within two hours (traffic permitting!).

The map below shows a closer view of the area and the location of each of the four churches is indicated by a number in a brown circle (1 - Breedon on the Hill, 2 - Isley Walton, 3 - Staunton Harold, 4 - Worthington).

The A42, which joins the M42 to the M1, cuts straight through the benefice.

Visitors approaching southbound on the M1 should leave at Junction 23 and take the A453 towards East Midlands Airport and Castle Donington. Once on the A453, stay on the main road which will take you through Isley Walton and Breedon on the Hill.

Visitors approaching on the M1 northbound should leave at Junction 21 and take the A511 through Coalville to Ashby de la Zouch. The A511 crosses over the A42 just before Ashby, at the next roundabout (Tesco supermarket visible on the other side as you approach) turn right towards Breedon on the Hill.

Visitors approaching on the M42 northbound should continue northward as the road name changes to A42 and leave at Junction 12. At the roundabout at the end of the slip road take the first left towards Ashby de la Zouch. At the next roundabout (Tesco supermarket visible on the other side as you approach) turn right towards Breedon on the Hill.

Breedon church is clearly visible on top of Breedon Hill. In Breedon village turn off the main road by the garden centre and drive up the road to the top of the hill.

Isley Walton church is the most difficult of the four to find. It is situated opposite the turn to Melbourne on the A453 but it is hidden behind the trees. It may be approached by turning into the driveway 50 metres to the north of the Melbourne turn on the A453, just at the end of the red brick wall on the right hand side.

Staunton Harold church is situated in the grounds of Staunton Harold, which is now a Sue Ryder home. Take the turn off the main road, signposted to Melbourne, between Lount and Breedon and turn immediately left into the drive of Staunton Harold. The drive is approximately 1 kilometre in length and nowadays takes a circuitous route which brings you round the back of the hall. There is a large car park by the garden centre and from there bear right on foot to find the main hall. The church is in front of the hall by the lake. You can bring some bread to feed the ducks if you like.

Worthington village is signposted from the main road and the church is found on the left hand side.
